Embracing Sobriety, Building Hope
Help AARS Double Its Care Capacity, Because Every Alaskan Deserves Access to Recovery
Embracing Sobriety, Building Hope
A Crisis of Capacity in Alaska
For 43 years, Alaska Addiction Rehabilitation Services (AARS) has offered hope, dignity, and healing for adults struggling with substance use disorder. But the need is outpacing capacity. AARS receives nearly 383 statewide referrals each year yet can only treat about 40 clients annually due to limited space.
In a state where there are only 65 treatment beds in the Mat-Su Valley and 450 statewide, hundreds of Alaskans are left waiting. Waiting for a second chance. Waiting for recovery. Waiting to live.
What We’re Building, and Why
In March 2025, AARS broke ground on a $12 million facility expansion that will add 26 new residential treatment beds, doubling our current residential treatment capacity. In this expansion, we will also double our current outpatient bed capacity, growing from 10 to 20. This expansion represents more than bricks and mortar, it’s about restoring families, reducing overdose deaths, and transforming lives across Alaska.
With this growth, AARS will:
- Serve up to 90 clients per year (up from 30)
- Reduce waitlists for care that can’t wait
- Provide state-of-the-art treatment in a secure, trauma-informed environment
- Extend our commitment to high-quality, client-centered rehabilitation
This is a movement for accessible, lifesaving care, and it’s already in motion.
